  9. Do you use animal-based gelatin or seaweed-based gelatin? If the latter, what source do you use?

  11. You sure do have a way with Jello! I bet this would be good with orange jello. Kind of a orange creamsicle, if you will!

Happy St. Pat's Day to you too!

  24. What a cool trick! I love that it separates into two great layers. Two treats for the price of one. So nifty!

  27. I always wondered how to make Jell-O with multiple layers! I never thought of vanilla ice cream. Thanks for sharing!

PS I've written a post about this but it won't be published till next week so I'll come back and give you the link then! =)

  28. I just made this for a St. Patrick's Day party tonight . . . my layers didn't really separate (and I used about 3/4 qt ice cream) but it tastes yummy!

  29. I'm planning on making this in the next couple of days. If you didn't use the full quart of ice cream, how much did you actually use? Is a pint too little? I think this will be a huge hit at my daughter's daycare.

  30. Hey Liz, I would use close to a quart (2 pints). I think one pint is too little. And it was just personal preference on my part for not wanting that much ice cream. It didn't ruin it...it'll be fine with a full quart. Here is my friend's recipe and JustJenn uses 3/4 of a quart: http://justjennrecipes.com/category/jello/

Have fun with it! Happy St. Pat's Day to your daughter!! - mary

  31. Hi Mary, thanks for the feedback. I made the Jello last night, along with the Thin Mint Brownie recipe you recently shared (YUM!). I used 3/4 pint of vanilla ice cream but it didn't have as nice of a thick layer of cream on top, like your picture showed. I ended up with a thin layer, which is fine. Do you think it could be there result of overmixing?

  32. Liz, you used 3/4 of a PINT or a QUART? You need to be closer to a Quart (4 cups). I think is depends on so many things...the type of ice cream used, whether it all melted into the jello...I'm not sure. No two look the same! My cousin makes it and it is always flatter...but it also might be the container. Oh, the fluctuation in jello...I hope it was still delicious! - mary

  33. I used 3/4 of a QUART. I do love the variations in appearance too. My daughter had a piece this morning...she begged and begged...

  34. What does this nice looking dessert taste like?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous, How does it taste? It tastes like Jello with a creamy layer on top. Give it a try! - mary the food librarian

  36. haha thanks
i was kinda hoping it would taste like ice cream haha
have you ever done it with whipp cream on top instead?
if you have.. what's the difference
    your soo great!!

  37. How long will it keep outside the fridge? If I bring it for my son's class, I would have to drop it off in the morning and it may sit in an insulated bag for 2-3 hours. Is that too long?

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Anonymous How long? Hum...I'm not sure. I've had it out at a party for about an hour. Will the insulated bag have a pack of ice in it as well? That would definitely help. The gelatin will keep it together, it'll just get really soft and hard to eat with more time. Again, I'm not sure...mine are usually served straight from the refrigerator. - mary

  39. Can u add liquor? If so, how much would you recommend adding?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just put mine in the fridge. Excited to see how it turns out for my Kindergartners tomorrow!

  41. Awesome Recipe. I would also use a bit less ice cream as the top layer was a bit muchie. Next time I'll try 3/4 cup. But looked beautiful.

  42. try using lime sherbet next time in place of the icecream we do that with the orange jello and sherbet.
