Espresso Cheesecake Brownies - Tuesdays with Dorie

Espresso Cheesecake Brownies - Food Librarian
For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Melissa of Life in a Peanut Shell chose Espresso Cheesecake Brownies, page 104 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

I baked this week's entry early this morning before my first (and hopefully only) day of jury duty. It has been too hot in Los Angeles to cook any other time. I am now starting this post using my iPod Touch and free WiFi at the courthouse...how do you iPhone people manage this keyboard?! My finger is cramping, I keep hitting the wrong letters, and oh my gosh, I'm getting motion sick seeing those letters pop out at me. (I have an LG Envy phone and it has a "raised" touchable QWERTY keyboard that I can use without looking. Um, I need to be schooled by my iPhone peeps or eventually forget getting the iPhone and pick up the Blackberry.)

I skipped the sour cream topping and don't really have a review because I can't eat them...dairy is pretty much a foe of mine now. I'm crazy not happy about that. Sadly, I now chew (to check if I accidentally used salt instead of sugar and to check the texture) and then I spit it out. Sigh. However, the flavors I did get were pretty tasty!! :)

...Back home now for lunch, shoot some photos and post this entry (using a real computer keyboard! :) I am crossing my fingers I don't get picked during the second session of jury duty. They haven't called anyone yet and there are over 100 of us reading, surfing the net, and dozing off. Los Angeles County uses a one trial or one day system...so if I can just make it to 5 pm...

  2. You really do get used to typing on an iPhone after a while--somehow you learn to ignore the pop out letters and trust the word recognition software! My iPhone is actually my little baker's assistant--I use it to look up recipes!

  3. Your brownies look perfect - you have great swirling skills. :) I'm sorry you couldn't try any! I only had a tiny bite myself before sending the rest of them away and I'm still hitting myself for not keeping one!

  4. WOW, you sure know how to swirl! :)

That is an impressive batch of swirled brownie bliss.

I have an iPhone and I agree with you on the keyboard feature. Very hard to type,; especially when one has long nails!

Too bad you didn't get to eat one. That darn dairy.
Hope your jury duty is over and gets over quick!

  10. May you only have a short trial if you are unlucky and get picked...I think the Michael Jackson's Doctor civil thing won't be coming on the docket for a year or so :)...I think that one will be OJ-esque in length!

  14. Those brownies look gorgeous. And I want you to know that I finally had a chance to make the classic banana bundt cake that you picked for TWD, and it was a tremendous hit. Tremendous!

  15. My hubby has the iPhone and I can't stand the keyboard. I feel for you on that one!

the brownies came out so perfect, they don't even look like they need the sour cream topping!

  16. I'm hopelessly attached to my blackberry because of the keyboard. Soon, peer pressure will get the best of me, and i'll cave in and get an iPhone.

I thought your going dairy free was a temporary thing? --- yikes!
Well then, send these beautiful brownies my way -- I'd be happy to take them off your hands! :)

  20. I've only been called to jury duty one time and I didn't even go because when I checked the night before the message they weren't calling my number.

That really stinks that you can't have dairy.

  22. You are totally making me wish for my Envy phone. I gave it up for the Iphone - and while the Iphone has some great features, I was a speed texter on the Envy.

Why, oh why did I give it up?

  23. These are absolutely gorgeous brownies! Your swirls and cuts are picture-perfect. They could be on the cover of a magazine! Plus they sound delicious - need to make them soon!

  24. Good call on leaving off the sour cream. It was too much. Yours looks perfect!

  25. Forget the iphone! Get the blackberry. So much easier to type on. Glad you are done with jury duty. Baking late night/early morning is the only way to do it these days. Bring back the June Gloom!

  31. You did an amazing job- quite possibly the most perfect square! Yours swirling is great!! Im sorry you couldnt enjoy because of the dairy.

    ReplyDelete
  32. chew and spit? what a tragedy! regardless, your batch appears much more moist than the others i've seen, not to mention the fact that perfect swirls are involved. bravo. :)

  33. Oh good luck! I hope you don't get selected! My friend just got selected to be on a grand jury and he has to do it FOR A MONTH! Your swirls are amazing... but you know what is also amazing? The iPhone. Puts the blackberry to shame (besides the whole "emails take a bit longer to come through" thing). You'll get used to the keyboard ... the t9 is amazing and does great word completion for you... except when you want to use a curse word or two! The apps are amazing, the phone is great, trust me, you'll never look back.

  50. How did you get those swirls to be so perfectly swirly?! Gorgeous. I can sympathize with your dairy issues...though I usually blindly ignore my own dairy limitations and accept the dire consequences haha.

    ReplyDelete
  51. This is gorgeous and I think I can taste them through the screen.

I want to make them so badly but I'm there with you on dairy being a foe - breastfeeding an infant who's allergic to it.

So I'll just stare at them. :)
