For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Kayte of Grandma’s Kitchen Table chose Allspice Crumb Muffins, page 16 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.
Ah. The muffin.
Such a lovely little mini cake that takes no time at all. And no frosting to fuss with. Score.
This one uses Allspice as the secret ingredient. (Although with the name Allspice Crumb Muffin, I guess it ain't a big secret! :)
I don't use allspice much...and I had to head to Penzeys Spice to pick up a new container. Ahhh. Nothing like fresh spices.
I think my topping should have formed a bit more. My topping wasn't crumby enough and sorta spread out on muffin. I'll have to see how my other Tuesdays with Dorie friend made theirs.
Thanks Kayte of Grandma’s Kitchen Table for a yummy pick!
Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!
P.S. Happy Birthday to my niece Hailey!!

Those muffins look very scrumptious and moist, yummy!
ReplyDeleteCheers,

Your muffins look wonderful. I think your crumb topping looks great. My topping melted mostly off. I love Penzey's. I bet the fresh allspice made these that much more yummy.
ReplyDeleteNicely done, Mary!
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I feel like its been a while since I've seen you... Hummm... wonder why.
Oh! And Happy b-day to your niece Hailey!
These muffins were so great.
ReplyDeleteMy crumb topping spread too.
The muffins look great. I thought these would have been kind of plain had I not made them into coffee cake with chocolate chips!
ReplyDeleteyou're right - there is nothing like fresh spices.
ReplyDeleteThose muffins look amazing! And anything with spice immediately gets my attention hehe! :)
ReplyDeleteYour muffins look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteMy crumb topping was sort of random too...I think that is how it is supposed to look and they probably double it in the cookbook pictures....
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty much how my muffin tin looked when it came out of the oven...but aren't they good anyway? I'm going to try ordering from Penzey's one of these days.
ReplyDeleteThose muffins look delicious. Bet the topping was tasty even if it did spread out!
ReplyDeleteI think your muffins look yummy! I reduced the butter a little in my topping and didn't have a problem with any of it melting away.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
yum! Great job on your muffins. They look delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that most of Dorie's recipes are a hit :)
ReplyDeletebeautiful job!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThose look great! Mine spread over the top too, I haven't tried them but they look delish.
ReplyDeleteEven if the topping melted into the muffins a bit, they still look awesome! I reduced the butter in the crumble a bit and also used a pastry cutter to cut it in instead of my fingers and that seemed to do the trick. The allspice was awesome - I need to use it more often!
ReplyDeleteNow THOSE look like muffins... perfect top and everything. Glad you got the spice - have you ever used Penzey's natural cocoa? I've been thinking of ordering some... (off topic). Nicely done this week!
ReplyDeleteYUM! I miss these muffins. Your muffins look great!
ReplyDeleteYour muffins turned out mighty tasty looking topping and all.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like this...I definitely did. Is there an allspice bundt in the Food Librarian's future???
I really liked these too for the simplicity of the preparation.
ReplyDeleteAh, nothing like fresh spices, I agree!
Yours are true American beauties! Love them!
ReplyDeleteIls sont adorables;)xxx
ReplyDeleteThey do look pretty and lusciously perfect! Nice job. And fresh allspice from Penzey's? Yahoo!
ReplyDeleteYour muffins look fabulous! My topping melted a little too, but I loved them anyway. Well done!
ReplyDeleteThey look fabulous! I went to Penzey's and bought allspice too. It is fun to buy new spices!
ReplyDeleteHaha, you're so anti-frosting. I love the spice factor in these. It's warming for our imaginary fall.
ReplyDeletevery nice muffins...like so much spices..
ReplyDeletei like your blog too

Alessandra,
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog!
Allspice is not a combination of spices. It is the dried fruit of a plant.
According to this wikipedia entry, it is called Pepe giamaicano in Italian.

Hope this helps! - mary
I hardly ever use allspice either, but I'm going to have to bake with it more often, because I loved these! I think your muffins look fantastic, melted crumbs and all!
ReplyDeleteI really need to give these a try. They look so good and light not too heavy.

Well, I think your muffins (and the crumbly tops) look really good. In fact, I wish I had one right now. Thanks for baking with me this week...always fun to see what you are up to over here.
ReplyDeleteMy first batch of these had the same problem with spreading. Since then I've made them several times and tweaked things so they don't spread as much. They're tasty either way, though.
