Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars
For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Lillian of Confectiona’s Realm picked Chocolate Oatmeal Almost-Candy Bars, pages 114 and 115 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.
I followed the directions except I subbed dried cranberries for the raisins. These cookies are really rich so I cut them into small squares.
These cookies have a bunch of candy-bar like ingredients: peanuts, oatmeal, raisins (or dried cranberries), and a chocolate center.
Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!

I love that you used cranberries in these bars. I was so tempted to sub cranberries for raisins, but I chickened out at the last minute and just used peanuts. I'll have to try cranberries next time. Your bars look awesome, I love the peanut cranberry goodness suspended in the chocolate layer.
ReplyDeleteI like that you subbed in dried cranberries, I bet that tasted good in these! They look perfecT!
ReplyDeletewe're on the same wavelength...I went the cranberry route too, and was really happy with how yummy they turned out.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't quite get myself to put raisins or cranberries in but your bars look delicious! I may have to try cranberries if I make these again!
ReplyDeletethat looks so good!
ReplyDeleteYour bars look perfect!!!!!
ReplyDeletewow che delizia!
ReplyDeleteThey look yummy. The cranberries sound like a great addition.
ReplyDeleteThey look pictrue perfect - as I would expect of anything you do.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you didn't try to make these in a bundt pan! :)
ReplyDeleteHow did you get yours to look so...pretty? Dried cranberries sound like they would be delicious additions.
ReplyDeleteI think yours have the perfect balance of oat layers to chocolate! I skipped the raisins and peanuts, so found my middle layer a bit thin. Still pretty good, though!
ReplyDeleteI definitely would have replaced the raisins also. These look very rich!
ReplyDeleteYours look great! I almost used cranberries, but I chickened out too at the last minute!
ReplyDeleteI love these! And with oatmeal, they have to be healthy, right? ;)
ReplyDeleteGood call on the fruit replacement - raisins were just so.... "ick"! These look spectacular - and love the prep photos!
ReplyDeleteThey looks so chunky and hearty and sweet- yum!
ReplyDeleteAh, I want a bite of that right now! I'm so sweet deprived!
ReplyDeleteYour bars look perfect! I had cranberries on hand, but they weren't dried. I went with raisins, which I love with chocolate.
ReplyDeleteOoh, yum! Your pictures look like they belong in Dorie's book.
ReplyDeleteLooks great. Good call on cutting them small. SO rich!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely looking bars! A lot of TWDers went the cranberry route and I love that idea. I have made a note in my book for next time.
ReplyDeleteI just love that recipe name! And your pics look better than a professional's!
ReplyDeleteThese sound downright blissful. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI'll bet cranberries added a nice bite to the taste. Raisins added only texture. Lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteI think I chopped the peanuts really small and not so course - I like how you can see clean cut chunks of peanut in the chocolate layer on your bars.
ReplyDeleteCranberries seem to be one of the more popular substitution for those ever controversial raisins.
