Friends and I went to Phlight Restaurant in Uptown Whittier (Los Angeles County) tonight. It was my first time at Phlight, and I found the food yummy and restaurant light and comfy. The staff very attentive and my friend D enjoyed the wine selection.
Unfortunately, I only have the names of the dishes...the menu has the description and ingredients. I thought that info was on their website, but my mistake. So here are some shaky photos with ISO 1600 ;)
Olives and Nuts. I ate almost the whole bowl!
Warm spinach salad $7 - I loved the salad and am so glad we had some vegetables with our meal of fried. See below.
Tomato Tempura $7 - Stuffed tomato deep fried. Yes, the start of our fried supper starts. The outside was delicious.
Empanadas $9 - Fried dough. Who can resist? We couldn't!
Patatas $5 - Two of us have been to other tapas restaurants where the patatas are logs or slices of potatoes in sauce. We were not expecting chips...but they were delicious and rounded out our 50% fried meal! :)
Inside the empanada (cheese, corn, huitlacoche) and topped with piquillo pepper cream sauce.
Artisan Bread $4 - Yummy! Warmed with butter and garlic.
Short Ribs $14 - Oh my goodness. These were delicious!!!!
Creme Caramel Flan $6 - I didn't have this but my friends said it was yummy.
My friend had the wine flight $20 - small amount of five wines of your choice.
If you are the Whittier area, stop by for some tapas at Phlight!

P.S. After some coffee at the Coffee Bean (where I had a delicious waffle - it was studded with syrup nuggets...kinda like a grown up McGriddle! See here for a photo)...anyway, we came back to our cars and the dance studio next door was having a MIME show. OMG. Remember my fear of dolls? Well, mimes are just living dolls. Living dolls that sneak up on you and kill you. Well, that's where my imagination goes. I ran to my car and am sleeping with the lights on tonight. Luckily, I have a full and happy stomach.
I want that tomato tempura SO BADLY.
ReplyDeleteYou're making me crave empanadas...love your pictures!
ReplyDeleteHello Food Librarian. Delicious post! I've started calling our leftover meals "flights". They are much more appetizing!!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Bonnie
Those dishes are very sweet. My friends saw those pictures and told me that it is the best and they want to try that.
