A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie
A Tourtely Apple Tart

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Jeanette of The Whimsical Cupcake chose A Tourtely Apple Tart on pages 306 and 307 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

A Tourtely Apple Tart - Tuesdays with Dorie
For a bunch of crazy reasons, I didn't have access to my mini tart pans so I did these free form hand pie thingies. With a knife, I cut two steam holes in the center...but when they came out of the oven, they look like a little heart. Ahhh...tart/pie love.

Apple - collage 1
An apple, raisin, nut and spice applesauce is cooked on the stove and cooled. I skipped the nuts in the filling and tart dough, but didn't miss it. I could eat this applesauce all day long. I made the crust dough by hand...yes, those white pieces are butter. I made 1/2 the tart dough so that made two little tarty pies.

This is like a grown up and much more delicious version of a McDonald's apple pie! :)

Check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers and see their creations...and to see how it is supposed to be made in a tart shell!

  1. This was exactly my point on Twitter yesterday...I thought these tasted like the McD's apple pies as well and I love those! Might need to do this recipe again and try making them into little pies like yours...those look great! Nice photos of them.

  3. The apple filling looks so good! I must try these! I like that you omitted the nuts just because I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to fruit tarts/pies.

  9. My most favorite part of any apple tart, pie, is hands-down, the crust!!! This looks so light, and flaky! But I must say, the inners is looking quite delish!

  10. I love your handheld version but it might be a little too dangerous around here. I could see myself carrying them all around the house munching on them :)

  13. Well you are certainly not going to let a little thing like the lack of a tart pan stop you.... very smart on your part. Not to mention resourceful. Since I haven't had the MD's version in so long (thankfully) I didn't get the connection until seeing others comment as such. he he Wowza, I bet there will be some increase in sales just to compare. There they go.... those TWD bakers again. Nicely done, Mary.
