I will miss you Picnik

I will miss you Picnik

Dude, I'm so sad. Picnik is closing tomorrow, April 19th.

For those who didn't use this great editing program, Picnik was awesome. It had free services, or a really inexpensive Pro account that easily allowed you to edit photos, make collages, add text and do fun stuff. It worked seamlessly with Flickr and was so easy to use. So freaking easy.

If you were a user of Picnik, what are you going to do? (Besides cry like me?! :)  The Aviary program that's in Flickr now SUCKS. You don't get to choose any fonts? What?! I haven't used Google+ because, well, it's Google+ and I'm mad at them for killing Picnik. I hear you can make the edits like in Picnik, but not the collages...and it isn't tied to Flickr (since that's a Yahoo product) so you can't save them back to Flickr.

At least PicMonkey has a font collection and they say "Collages are coming soon"... I'll be trying them out as soon as I'm over my mourning period for Picnik. Let me know if you found something similar to Picnik.

By the way, I have Photoshop Elements and Lightbox, but I found Picnik so easy to use and the web-based aspect was so handy when working in a coffeeshop. Perhaps I'll head to these programs... Sigh.

Oh Picnik...I'll miss you so! Thanks for many good years! :)

  1. Photoscape (http://www.photoscape.org/) is a free editing program that is pretty simple to use. Their 'combine' feature would let you make those collages. (combine - then pick the tab to checker, and at the bottom you can set how many columns...)
You can also resize all the images in a folder at once, which is pretty handy. Works for my super minimal needs.

  2. I'm super bummed about Picnik too. You're right, the new Aviary program in Flickr is terrible. I'll probably switch over to PicMonkey for now, but eventually might try to learn Lightroom.

  3. Ugh, I'm so with you. I'd only been using picnik for about 6 weeks when they announced it was shutting down. Even after such a short relationship, it felt like a friend was dying. I still don't know what I'm going to do, and I'm out of time. Oy.

  9. I am also very sad to see Picnik go. I used it because of your blog and loved the different fonts. Definitely not a happy camper...

  10. I was really upset about picnic too! But I learned that PicMonkey is made by some people from picnic. And I must say that the picmonkey is just the same but much better. Now I wait for the collages.

  12. I am so bummed about this, too! If you have picasa, you can make collages with that, but it's kind of a pain compared to picnik, and I don't think they have nearly as many fun editing features. I was always totally content with the free picnik, but then they made they break-up even worse by giving us all access to the pro version! ahhhhh. I guess I'll try picmonkey before google+...

  14. Me, too! I'm so bummed that it's shutting down. I didn't get what's happening- will it still be around, or completely gone?

  15. I am bummed out too. I was in a mad rush to get all my pics edited and collages done before they went bye bye. I managed but I don't know where else to go. I have Adobe Photoshop but it's hard to use and I can't do all the fun stuff on there that Picnik offered. I tried going to PicMonkey and it wouldn't let me do anything, not sure why.

Anyway, if you find anything I hope you'll let us know :-)

  16. I AGREE! I am in Picnik MOURNING. WHY? Why?!!

Aviary does really suck. And like you, I refuse to use Google Plus since they killed Picnik. (Actually, I checked it out for the collage purposes. DON'T HAVE ANY!)

I'll check out PicMonkey. Or I might try to learn photoshop.....
