Strawberry Scones
Strawberry Scone

Beep. Beep. Beep.
Bang {hitting the snooze button}.
Beep. Beep. Beep.

It's about 4:45 am on Monday morning and while listening to NPR's Morning Edition, I flip on the laptop.

When I look at my Google Reader, Irene's Confessions of a Tart Strawberry Scone pop out at me. I mean, arms coming out of the computer shaking you awake in the morning and screaming, "Make these now!"

Strawberry Scones
Luckily, I went to the farmer's market this weekend and picked up these lovely California grown strawberries.

Irene received her recipe from a friend and it's totally a winner!

I used 90% cream and a little buttermilk (because I ran out of cream!). I shaped mine in two small rounds and got 16 scones. I brought them to the library and they were gone in a flash.

Strawberry Scones
When you hear the Beep. Beep. Beep. of your alarm, get up and make some scones!

Thanks Irene for a great recipe! For the recipe and way, way better photos (including step-by-step photos) go to Irene's awesome blog: Confessions of a Tart - Strawberry Scone

Is it all right if I just stay asleep and DREAM of these gorgeous things? No. OK, I'll bake them. Seriously, though, I haven't always been happy with the baked goods I've made (muffins, quick bread) using strawberries...so I'm looking forward to trying these. And I love scones!

I love scones, and that's exactly how I make them-- with heavy cream. They are so easy and so delicious!! Yours are gorgeous with the fresh strawberries! I'm not surprised they got gobbled up right away at the Library. :) K

Oh my gosh. Those look SO good ... I absolutely must make them!

We have Louisiana strawberries here - big, juicy and so sweet. Local is always best, isn't it?

Thanks for sharing.

Mary

Oh my gosh, these look so beautiful! They are actually jumping out at me right now. Too bad I'm in the office, lol. I am so so glad Fumie's recipe worked for you as well! It was definitely given to me with love.

Those look absolutely wonderful! I love scones and I love strawberries. YUM.

Although, the one time I tried to make fresh strawberry scones, the strawberries were to waterey and I didn't end up with a great texture. What did you do to avoid the water issue?

I just finished the last of my strawberries from this week with breakfast this morning. Guess I will have to get more to make these ASAP.

What were you doing up at 4:45 in the morning?

Well, the obvious answer is making scones - which is a perfectly good reason to be awake!

These are so lovely. I'd never heard of using fresh strawberries (or any fresh fruit, for that matter) in a scone.

What the heck Mary? You baked FRESH SCONES at four thirty in the MORNING.

overachiever!

(but really, I am just totally jealous!)

I was eying this on Irene's blog, too!! Your scones turned out so beautifully. They look delicate, crumby, but with a tender chewiness. I, too, just picked up some CA strawberries from the market (today, actually...and I had to carry them home on the train from San Fran to Berkeley, adn they were smelling soooo delicious). I need to definitely make these scones!
