Oh. Sorry.
That was my head hitting the keyboard as I struggle to stay awake. It is 8:15 pm.
I'm so tired today. I yawned so much at work my co-workers are starting to think my life isn't as boring as it really is. I don't know what it is, but I'm going to go to bed in a few minutes.
For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Amy of Sing for Your Supper chose Banana Creme Pie, page 342 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours. I made 1/4 of the recipe and skipped the pie crust. Instead, I used these lovely ginger Japanese cookies and some thin ginger cookies from Trader Joe's (watch the blog next week for giveaways that include these cookies!)
My pastry cream was a little too cooked and ended up a little "tough." Ah, I need to practice more on the puddings, custards and creams.
Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!
And check back next week! It'll be National Library Week and I'm celebrating with giveaways all week long! :)

Sorry you're so tired! I hope you were able to get to bed early! I love your presentation!
Both of those ginger cookies sound very good!! And the pie... well unfortunately it dissappointed me a bit.
It sure looks amazing in those glasses! Sorry your filling was a little tough, I bet it still tasted good :)
Mary, it looks soo good! I would take your version over any with pie crust.
Love love love the mini martini glass...I need one! I hope you got some sleep! Cute idea with the pie!
It's a deconstructed banana cream pie, I love it! Happy National Library Week and thanks to all of the wonderful librarians who make libraries what they are!
I hope you got a bit of sleep! Those photos are STUNNING! And what a gorgeous presentation! The ginger cookies sound great!
The martini glasses are so pretty. My pastry cream was a little too firm as well, but it tasted good!
Gorgeous! I love your simpler take on this recipe. The banana cream pie was great but quite time consuming for me so this is a nice alternative!
Very pretty dessert. I am glad you skipped the crust, this looks REALLY good!
Yum...a fantastic, inspired banana cream parfait! I love those TJ cookies --- it's a really creative approach Mary.
...now get some rest!
Great modification of the recipe! Looks yummy.
National Library Week!! Rad.
This looks like a very classy dessert. I hope you get some well deserved rest!
Love your presentation and using the cookies for the crust was a wonderful idea.
I don't think it was that you overcooked the pastry cream - mine was tough and rubbery too. I think it's just the nature of the beast.
Love the construction - and I hope you got some rest.
If it's any consolation, I fell asleep at 8:00 last night as well.
Your TWD submission for this week is my favorite thus far. I love the deconstructured look of your pie.
Hope you're not getting sick!
You feeling better today?
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have done that before . . sleeping before 9PM. Usually it's after a big meal with wine.
I am digging your fancy colored backgrounds and the ginger cookies sound like a good replacement for the crust!
Bravo!
Oh...those cookies in the bottom of that Martini glass.....look fab!
I bet they taste even better!
Ah yes, 8pm bedtime is the best. Seriously, sometimes I struggle to get these TWD posts written because I'm so darn tired...at 9pm. No shame! Your parfaits look great--I love the idea of adding ginger cookies to the spiced pastry cream.
Great presentation! Thanks for baking with me this week!

What a beautiful way to fancy-up this pie!
Very lovely. Your pics are great.
Wow - fantastic presentation, who'd a thunk? :) The ginger cookies, I'm sure, are fabulous - love those!
I love seeing how everyone interprets these recipes. Yours is adorable!
Oh how pretty!!! What a great variation you made.
FWIW, my cream was really thick too, after chilling. I just used the electric mixer and beat in about 1/2 cup of milk and the consistency became perfect!
Love the martini glass idea!
It's like a deconstructed pie. Love it. Hope you get some sleep soon!
Beautiful photos! Bananas and cream who can resist?!
Sounds so good with the ginger cookies!!! Glad I didn't do a whole recipe either.
I had the same problem with the pastry cream. Your deconstructed pies look beautiful though!
Too cooked?
Well, it looks all very nice to me! Especially presented in those nice tall glasses!
I absolutely love your presentation and photo! Great job!
looks beautiful. i like the way you changed it up. and lol at the comment about your yawning and what your co-workers think. :)
Your dessert looks great.. definitely elegant!
LOL! Some nights, many nights I feel the same way & would love to be able to get to bed before 11. I do it to myself and pile on to much.
Your banana parfaits look wonderful! Great adaptation!

Beautiful presentation. Love the glasses. Get some sleep!
wow that looks beautiful and yummy. Great job on the presentation.

I love what you've done with this somewhat deconstructed banana cream pie. How elegant looking! Those Tj's cookies sound AWESOME.
Hope you got a good night's sleep! I love your banana cream parfait! The Trader Joe's ginger cookies sound like a fantastic substitute for crust!
Hello! I hope this new day finds you well rested. I like your take on the recipe. Sounds delicious and it looks fabulous.
Mmm, you've added a touch of class to this homey treat. It looks wonderful.
Now get some rest :)
Haha.. I can imagine your co-workers speculating about your extra curricular activies! Hope you've managed to get some decent rest since. I like how your cream pie has it's own Mini Me. If your pastry cream is too thick, you can always let it down with a bit of cream.

go get some zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzr/eltgia'lbnzzzzzzzz. And the pie/parfait/banana surprise looks tasty.
I went the parfait route as well, but without the cool cookies. =) I hope you get to catch up on some sleep soon.
My custard was a little too tough also. More practice is required for me. But I liked the recipe. I love your version in the martini glasses!
