During my stay in the DC area, I went to Georgetown Cupcake on M Street. My preggers friend Racheal and her husband Lee both work at Georgetown. Before Lee left on his business trip, I went to M Street in Georgetown.
Racheal loves Georgetown Cupcake, and unlike Los Angeles where there is a cupcake shop on every corner, I believe this is the only cupcake place in DC.
The line was out the door (they often sell out) but it goes quickly because you can only fit 4 people in the store at one time! I met the nicest woman from Hawai'i in front of me who is taking her daughter on a college tour...this summer, they are going to visit UCLA and I hope it'll be her choice! :)

Our favorites...Chocolate Mint and Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl
They offered free gift wrapping for Mother's Day!

Those look delicious and are so so cute!
I live in DC... and there are several cupcake shops in the area (but not on every corner). I'm really happy you tried Georgetown though because it is BY FAR the best :)
oh those cupcakes are adorable! have you been to sprinkles? i heard there was another comparable cupcakes bakery near... stanford?
emily, thanks for visiting my blog. i'm so glad i went to the right cupcake shop in DC!!! i'm also lucky to get great weather too! - mary
Those look amazing! Such pretty cupcakes! I wish we had a cupcake shop like that near me.
nice cupcakes :)
I haven't had any luck with cupcakeries in my area (Bay Area, CA). There is no balance with the frosting and cake and not sure why there are lines out the door.
These Georgetown cupcakes look adorable!
I love checking out bakeries when I travel to see what other cities have to offer. I will make sure I check these guys out when I visit DC this summer.
$2.75 a piece? Amazing. I love the gift wrapping though! I'll take a dozen chocolate mind please :).
I like the pink boxes! :)
If you're in DC for much longer, I HIGHLY recommend Hello Cupcake in Dupont Circle. They are divine. If you go on a Monday or Thursday you simply must get the Velvet Elvis (banana bread cake with peanut butter frosting) it is the BEST cupcake I have ever eaten.
Meghan, Thank you so much for this recommendation!! What a great idea for a cupcake - banana and chocolate. I don't know if I'll be able to swing it this trip (I'm here helping my friend on bed rest), but I'll definitely visit there when I come back when the baby is born!
Georgetown Cupcake's website says, "...opened GC in February 2008 as DC's first and only cupcakery." Sorry, I misunderstand that they were still the only one, but you and Emily corrected me on that one. Glad you have lots of choices in your great city!! :) - mary
I live in Georgetown and I love GTown cupcake -- it's my favorite treat when I feel like I deserve one. I haven't been yet (so lame because I live there) but I've heard that Baked & Wired makes an excellent cupcake. They're in Georgetown too in Thomas Jefferson Circle. Corby Kummer, The Atlantic's food guru, pronounced their cupcake the best a couple of issues ago.
Anyway, I hope that you have a great week with your friend and I'm glad that you got to sample the goods at Georgetown Cupcake!
OHHH it's soooo cuuuuuuteee!!!
Man, don't think this was here when i was in law school at G-town and could eat dairy, bummer.
So adorable looking --- I'm curious to hear how they compare to Sprinkles.
Those would have been my favorites, too! I go by there at least once a month and I've never gone in because of the long lines.
Mary--you totally surprised me by bringing these home for us to share. Wow, those were so good. I'm surprised I passed my glucose test at the doctor's office after eating all of the yummy baked treats you brought home and baked for me. :) Love you and miss you lots, Racheal P.S. Thanks, again!!! So much fun to taste different flavors!!!
