Applesauce Spice Bars - Tuesdays with Dorie
Tuesday, August 18, 2009
For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Karen of Something Sweet by Karen picked Applesauce Spice Bars on page 117 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.
I want to thank you all for the love, support and e-hugs about the loss of my cat, Q-Tip. I so appreciate it. When I was making these bars, I kept expecting her cute face to come over and visit with me.
Apple, nuts, raisins and glaze. Pretty simple and sweet. Some people say they didn't have enough glaze and doubled the recipe, but I like a light touch on any frosting so it was fine with me.
Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!

I know my husband and in-laws would LOVE this!
These look perfect. I love the drizzled on glaze. So sorry to hear about your cat.
How do you make everything look so perfect? Have you considered a second career as a food stylist?
Look at that glaze just glistening in the light. So decadent. These look so... for lack of a better word... fresh. Really tender and airy crumb. Yum.
They look so good! I love how you glazed them.
I love the lacy pattern of the glaze!

Mmmm these look awesome!
You are too good.
I love the glaze!
That glaze looks beautiful!
I'm sorry to hear about Q-tip. I recently moved away from my beautiful cat (technically he was my roommates so I had to leave him behind) and that post brought a few tears to my eyes.
oh my gosh! this is 100% my favorite thing you have posted so far!
i am a total apple fanatic though hehe. these look SO good, and like they could be lightened up quite easily
YUM!
The glaze on these looks ideal. I doubled mine, too, and let it cool before applying, but it still soaked in. Still delicious, though!
Your bars look perfect! Love how you sliced them beautifully just like in Dorie's photo!
Such great pictures, they look like they're straight out of a magazine.
Gorgeous looking bars!

Your pictures are as tempting as ever! Nice job. Take care, Mary!
You really made them look delicious! I love how you drizzled the glaze... they were wonderful without it AND with it! Mine kind of dried up and became cloudy... much like my mind! Glad you enjoyed them and took such great photo!
So sorry to hear about your cat. :(
Your bars look wonderful!
I've been on vacation, then my pc busted on me, so I haven't been here in a while...
First... I'm so sorry about your cat, I know how you must feel.
Second... I've taken the time to admire everything I've missed and golly! you haven't lost the touch in my absence!!! LOL
Those bars are to die for!
You performed magic with those cookies. The drizzle effect is perfect.
These bars look so delicious. Making me hungry.
Oh my that looks so deliciously sinful!
First, the bars look fabulous, I love how you drizzled instead of spread the icing, lovely!
Second, I feel terrible, I didn't know you had lost your kitty :( I'm so sorry!
Yum, love the close ups! And so perfectly drizzled, too.

These look fantastic. Love the drizzle rather than a glaze.
Just gorgeous! I'm sure that Q-tip was there in spirit if nothing else.
Okay, mine turned out nothing like your yummy looking bars. Save one for me Mary!
I fell way behind in my commenting Mary so I apologize for just getting over to your site now. Your bars look amazing! I love the way you drizzled the glaze over them. I doubled the glaze but I love your idea to drizzle with a single batch and keep the topping lighter.
looks so good, and i like your glaze drizzle-work!
Does the glaze stick to your teeth? Looks yummy delish. Racheal
Your bars look perfect!
I thought the glaze was just enough too - and yours is so artfully drizzled. Yum!
Those are some truly gorgeous pictures. I love the way the glaze looks.
