A small porcelain or plastic baby Jesus is baked into the bread, and whoever gets the doll in his or her piece must host a party on February 2, Candelaria Day.
We were very impressed with the box!
This has pecans, nuts in the bread, and candied fruit. My friend has had the break with guava, papaya and dried figs in the past.
Baby Jesus! In our medium sized cake, there were two figurines in the cake. Lucky for us, the finder of Baby Jesus said she'd bring in the traditional tamales and hot chocolate on Feb 2nd! ;)
Today my Christmas lights came down and the Ephinany signals the end of the holiday season. Til next year!
P.S. Photos taken on my new Verizon Motorola Droid phone. Dude, this has an adjustable White Balance setting! I love my new phone! ;)

Fun!
And GET OUT! That's from your PHONE?!?! How do you like the rest of the phone features? We're getting new ones soon.
Oh, wow! I've never seen a rosca with that much pasta (the colorful "paste") and walnuts on it! Woah. The box is beautiful! I made a rosca yesterday and blogged about it. I'm glad you made a post about this tradition. Thank you.
This looks really good... It makes my mouth watery! lol
this kind of reminds me of that cake/bread people get for Mardi Gras. I will have to check out your link for the story of the Epiphany & the 3 kings bread.
Wow white balance on a cell phone! Awesome :) This bread looks great too...yum!
My family celebrates Three Kings Day in the Dominican Republic. But I have never seen a cake sold for the ocassion. Looks tastey.
I think you mean January in your post, there, instead of February.
Dawn, Thank you for catching that! I'm still writing 2009 so I'm all off on my dates! I corrected it. Best, mary
This Mexican version of an Epiphany bread is new to me - neat! That baby Jesus has something of the alien about him, though...
Wow, your phone takes amazing pics. Your office sounds like a fun place :)
