Dulce de Leche Duos - Tuesdays with Dorie
Dulce de Leche Duos

For this week's Tuesdays with Dorie selection, Jodie of Beansy Loves Cake decided on Dulce de Leche Duos on page 161 of Dorie's book, Baking: From My Home to Yours.

Have you read California girl Jodie's blog? Always a fun read...although Jodie loves coconut (my arch enemy). Her decorated cakes are really cute!

Because I live in Los Angeles, canned La Lechera Dulce de Leche is easy to find for just a few dollars. Lots of TWD bakers made their own using their ovens, stove tops and crock pots. I just reached for it on the shelf and was happy with that. Opening a can of Dulce de Leche is lovely...the sweet caramel smell is intense and you just try your darnest to not throw a spoon in there and just start eating it!

These were delicious!
The cookie (made with dulce de leche) was soft and the dulce de leche in the center? Heaven.
They were GONE at the library. Gone.

I like the cookies on their own. They didn't need the filling...but I'm not going to pass that up either! ;)

Be sure to check out the other Tuesdays with Dorie bakers!

Your cookies look great! I couldn't find dulce de leche in the store, but making it wasn't too bad. :)

Beautiful pictures. I wish one of the cookies would hop out of the screen and I could eat it for breakfast. They look delicious.

They are like whoopie pies!

I want. It's plane food for me for the next 12 hours... :( But I am in Italy now, so I've had a pretty fun few days!

Yum. Yours look great. Just another reason why I need to get to California....more access to Dulce de Leche!

Now THAT'S a nice dark color of DDL! I was one who couldn't find this on the shelf but wish I had. These look great! Mine were gone at the office too - even with the homemade stuff!

Glad you liked them! Now, I'm wondering about next week: you love bundt cakes and hate coconut. What are you going to do?

I love how fluffy your cookies are.

Mine are as flat as a pancake...only flatter.

Your cookies look lovely! I love the comment about coconut the arch enemy. That's totally how I feel- too funny!

I feel like I don't even know you anymore man. How could you not fill the cookie with more DDL? That just seems so wrong. Then again you dont' like frosting. It breaks my heart. PS- So Miss Bundt lover, Coconut hater. Whatcha gonna do next week for TWD? ;)

Beautiful cookies! I agree, why risk exploding cans when we can buy it right off the shelf.

Gorgeous cookies! I'm sorry I love coconut, but I also love mochi and layered jello. And I'm Japanese! Does that help? :) Thanks for baking with me!!

Gorgeous cookies!

Goodness, that basket of cookies looks so tempting. And I agree with your assessment -- no reason not to add extra dulce de leche in the filling. Sounds great!

Oh, Yeah!! Very tasty. Hard to turn away from. Good with or without the filling.

Pretty cookies.

I bought my dulce de leche and I am not ashamed of it! Haha! Yours look gorgeous!

Lovely cookies, Mary. I have meant to make them for the longest time!

Ooh, your cookies look great, Mary. Love that first photo and how thick your cookies look. After going to a couple stores, I finally found it canned and was happy to not have to worry about cooking up my own.

Love the photos, awesome, as always! Your coworkers sure hit the jackpot with you in their library! My sister made these instead of me, probably a good thing because I would have eaten WAY too many!

I agree Mary, the cookies were definitely good on their own. I actually preferred them that way! Yours look awesome!

Great looking cookies! I will be sure to try the cookies first without and then with the dulce de leche.

They look delicious! And I don't know what could possibly be wrong with sticking your spoon in the dulce de leche!

They look incredible! I had to do a rewind this week, didn't have the ingredients. Still want to make them though!

Love how fat your cookies are, mine were superflat. I preferred them without the dulce de leche filling, with the filling I found them to be too sweet....

I love Dulce de Leche! I eat it straight from the jar with a spoon :) I might have to try these cookies!

You'd think I'd be able to find DDL easily here, too (Texas), but it's harder than I expected. I can easily buy La Lechera sweetened condensed milk, but haven't seen their DDL. Oh, well, at least it's not hard to make. =) Your cookies look great!

They look fantastic! No wonder they disappeared at the library!

These were a very good cookie, filled or not. I tried one filled with ganache and it was so good. And it was really nice of you to share!

It's great that you could get store bought DDL in LA. I suppose you'll bake these yummy cookies more often in the future? ;-)

Welcome to our crazy blessed life said... [Reply to comment]

These are beautiful!! :) I wish I had used a bit more filling in the center!

PheMom said... [Reply to comment]

I really enjoyed making my own DDL, but if I knew a good brand to buy, I would probably do that just as often - possibly more, and then I'd probably be in trouble! That DDL you bought looks nice and dark - and your cookies look fabulous!

These cookies look fabulous - can't wait to try them as soon as possible. Always love anything dulce de leche so these look mightily addictive :)
